Ó Cuív welcomes 200 new customer service operations centre jobs for Galway

Éamon Ó Cuív TD, Minister for Social Protection has welcomed the announcement today (26 May 2010) that the leading global interactive entertainment company Electronic Arts (NASDAQ:ERTS), is to create 200 new jobs in Galway.

This investment by the global software company, headquartered in Redwood, California, is being supported by the Government through IDA Ireland.

Minister Ó Cuiv said: “I am delighted that Electronic Arts (EA) is to establish a European customer service and operations centre for its BioWare™ studio in Galway. This is welcome news for the west of Ireland and is indicative of the excellent skills-set and creative work force available in this sector.

“The investment is also a major vote of confidence by Electronic Arts in Galway and in the capabilities of the city to support such a strategic development.  The investment will create excellent employment opportunities in Galway, while significantly enhancing Electronic Arts global business as they continue to bring the highest quality gaming experiences to market.”  

Minister Ó Cuiv added: “The rise of social networking, where social gaming is one of the fastest-growing employment segments is creating new opportunities in the industry.  Ireland is well positioned to become a leading player as an international centre for games companies.”

Concluding his remarks, Minister Ó Cuiv said: “I wish to take this opportunity to thank Dr Ray Muzyka, Senior Vice President, EA and Group General Manager, BioWare for his company’s commitment to Galway and to Ireland, and I wish Electronic Arts every success with their plans for this key European customer service and operations centre and its development to full potential.”
