Ó Cuív welcomes €1.9 million contracts for Gaeltacht-based ÉireComposites Teoranta

Éamon Ó Cuív TD, Minister for Social Protection has welcomed the announcement today (28 June 2010) that ÉireComposites Teoranta in Indreabhán, Co Galway has won contracts with the European Space Agency to the value of €1.9 million to develop technologies for next-generation space launchers and satellites.

Minister Ó Cuív said: “These contracts worth €1.9 million secured by ÉireComposites Teoranta are indicative of this Gaeltacht-based innovative company’s capacity to compete with others in the space technology sector by single-mindedly focusing on the outstanding skills set and ability of its staff.”

Minister Ó Cuív added: “ÉireComposites Teroranta will be delivering on leading edge material technologies for the prestigious European Space Agency. ÉireComposites are representative of the kinds of dynamic firms located in both Galway city and county that base their success on excellence in innovation.  They must be congratulated on their quality standards and on developing a successful competitive business model.”

The announcement of the contracts was made by the Minister’s Cabinet colleague, Minister Batt O’ Keeffe TD. Three new engineering graduates will be employed to work on the project which is also supported by Enterprise Ireland. The Government invests €14.5 million annually in the European Space Agency which enables firms to bid for technology development contracts.

Minister Ó Cuív concluded: “The pace of technological change and dynamic customer needs, require companies to be flexible and adaptable.  This Government is committed to ensuring Ireland remains a key location for leading edge research and development, and the quality jobs it can deliver.”
