Ó Cuív welcomes €2.2 million in Government funding for Galway water and sewerage treatment

Éamon Ó Cuív TD, Minister for Social Protection has this afternoon (Wednesday 28 July 2010) welcomed Government funding of over €2.2 million which is to be allocated by the Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government to both Galway City and County Councils to assist with the running costs of the Councils’ water and sewerage treatment plants and the sampling and licensing costs associated with the water services. Under the grants announced today by Minister Gormley, Galway City Council is to be allocated €488,000 and Galway County Council over €1.7m.Minister Éamon Ó Cuív said: “I am very pleased funding of over €2.2 million has been secured to assist our local authorities provide improved water and wastewater facilities for the people of Galway city and county. The protection and improvement of our water quality, particularly our supplies of drinking water from our local environment is essential and this expenditure reflects the Government’s ongoing commitment to preserving our water resources.”
