Éamon Ó Cuiv TD, Minister for Social Protection has welcomed funding of €500,000 announced today for the development of a new childcare and after-school services centre in An Cheathrú Rua. These new services are a joint venture between the Department of Community, Equality and Gaeltacht Affairs, Údarás na Gaeltachta and Coiste Comhfhiontar na Ceathrún Rua. A property within the Industrial Estate under Údarás ownership is to be leased to Cúram Leanaí na Ceathrún Rua Teo and will be refurbished as a nursery, a playschool and an after-school care centre.Minister Éamon Ó Cuiv TD said this evening: “I am delighted that a grant of €500,000 is to be allocated to develop childcare services in An Cheathrú Rua. Emphasis was placed in the report a Comprehensive Linguistic Study of the Use of Irish in the Gaeltacht 2007 on the support which must be given to generations of young Gaeltacht parents to enable them to raise their children through Irish. This new facility will help young parents in their endeavours to do that, while also providing them with a wonderful facility to assist with childcare needs. It is recognised that the importance of play, of games, of participation in activities, is best practice in early childcare and educational development and I am delighted that this Government support has been secured for the parents and children of An Cheathrú Rua.”
The funding announcement was made today by Pat Carey TD, Minister for Community, Equality and Gaeltacht Affairs.
