Minister Ó Cuív announces major revamp for Coláiste Chomáin in Ros Dumhach (Rossport).

Coláiste Chomáin in Ros Dumhach (Rossport) is to get a major revamp following approval for funding to carry out extensive building and renovation works in the Gaeltacht school, according to the Minster for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs, Éamon Ó Cuív TD.
Minster Ó Cuív said his Cabinet colleague, Education Minister Batt O'Keeffe TD, informed him that the Department had accepted the most competitive tender of almost €340,000 for the works which include:
- two new classrooms, craft room, engineering room, caretaker's room and store, two changing rooms, staff toilets, student toilets and disabled toilet;
- demolishing the external shed;
- partially renovating and refurbishing the existing building;
- upgrading the fire alarm system and water treatment facilities; and
- providing extra car-parking spaces.
Minister Ó Cuív said the announcement would be welcomed by teachers and students in the co-educational school and by the local community in the heart of the Erris Gaeltacht.
'I'm delighted building work is set to begin on the Coláiste Chomáin project and that the Department of Education and Science has secured best value for money in the tendering process.
'It demonstrates this Government's continuing commitment to schools in Gaeltacht areas and to rural communities.
'It's important that the strong educational output of students in Coláiste Chomáin is matched by a high standard of school accommodation.
'I've no doubt that the new classrooms and more modern facilities in this co-educational VEC school will advance the efforts the school's hard-working students and teachers to reach new levels of achievement into the future,' said Minister Ó Cuív.
