Written by Eamon Ó Cuív Monday, 30 November 2009
The Minister for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs, Éamon Ó Cuív, T.D., announced today that Foras na Gaeilge will be recruiting to fill 16 posts in the organisation shortly, subject to confirmation of a Labour Court Agreement.
These posts will be based in Dublin and Gaoth Dobhair as follows:
- 3 new posts in Dublin, i.e., Assistant Principal (Chief Terminologist) and 2 Higher Executive Officers
- 5 new posts in Gaoth Dobhair, i.e., Principal Officer (Director of Publications, Lexicography and Terminology), Assistant Principal (Editor, Lexicographical Unit), 2 Engineers Grade III (Assistant Editors) and a Higher Executive Officer, and
- 8 vacancies to be decentralised to Gaoth Dobhair, i.e., Engineer Grade II (Editor), 3 Engineers Grade III (Assistant Editor), Higher Executive Officer, 2 Executive Officers and a Clerical Officer.
Arising from an agreement reached in the Labour Court in regard to the vacancies to be filled in Gaoth Dobhair, current Dublin-based staff of Foras can apply for these posts and in the event of being successful, they will be able to fill the positions in Dublin on a personal basis. The Minister indicated that he was very pleased that the relevant Departments with Foras management and the unions were able to reach agreement in this case on an approach which accords with the Government's decentralisation plan for Gaoth Dobhair and which takes account of the best interests of the existing staff also.
Welcoming the agreement, the Minister said, "As an agency of An Foras Teanga, the North South Language Body, which was established on 2 December 1999 when the British-Irish Agreement Act 1999 came into effect, the mission of Foras na Gaeilge is to promote the Irish language in everyday life, throughout the island of Ireland. Therefore, I am very happy that agreement has been reached in regard to staffing matters as this will enable Foras to greatly strengthen its provision of Irish language services."
It is understood that these posts will be advertised by the Public Appointments Service shortly.
