Ó Cuív meets with the Councillor General of the Polish Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development

During his visit to Poland, the Minister for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs, Éamon Ó Cuív, T.D. met with Ms. Zofia Krzyzanowska, Councillor General in the Polish Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
Discussions were had in relation to the common issues faced by Ireland and Poland in relation to Rural
Development. Ms. Krzyzanowska, along with her colleagues, briefed Minister Ó Cuív on the rural development challenges being faced by Poland at present, and the Polish delegation were keen to learn about the Irish approach to rural development issues, particularly in terms of the generation of employment opportunities, and methods of maintaining rural populations.
Speaking after the meeting, Minister Ó Cuív said; “I was delighted to have this opportunity to speak with my Polish Rural Development colleagues, to share the experiences that we have had in implementing Rural Development Policies, and to discuss the development of European Rural Development Policy post 2013. If we wish to shape this programmes, it would advantageous to put a coherent view on behalf of our rural dwellers to the European Union early in the review process. We share a common goal in wanting to maintain strong rural communities within our countries, to develop and maintain the rural population through provision of employment opportunities and suitable infrastructure, and good social and education services”.
Minister Ó Cuív extended an invitation to the Polish delegation to visit Ireland in the near future in order to hold further discussions on common interests in advance of the Rural Development Programme 2013 – 2020.
