Ó Cuív approves further projects under the CLÁR Bilingual Signage Scheme

Éamon Ó Cuív T.D., Minister for Community, Rural & Gaeltacht Affairs today approved funding of €9,594.26 for 5 projects under the CLÁR Bilingual Signage Scheme. The scheme provides funding towards the erection of private, community and townland bilingual signs.

“Local community participation will ensure the success of the RAPID programme in Rathkeale” - Ó Cuív

The Minister for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs, Éamon Ó Cuív TD, will host a public information meeting about the RAPID Programme in Rathkeale, Co. Limerick tomorrow (Tuesday 12/01/10). Rathkeale, along with four other towns (Ballina, Co. Mayo, Dungarvan, Co. Waterford, Enniscorthy, Co. Wexford and Mullingar, Co. Westmeath), has recently been included in the RAPID Programme.  RAPID (Revitalising Areas by Planning, Investment and Development) is a focused Government initiative to target the 51 most disadvantaged communities in the country.

Speaking today in advance of the public meeting, Minister Ó Cuív said that he hoped for a high turnout from people in the local community as he believed that community involvement will be key to the success of the programme in Rathkeale.

“2010 BUDGET DEFENDS RURAL IRELAND” – Ó CUÍV

The Minister for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs, Éamon Ó Cuív TD said today that the recent Budget was a clear statement of the Government’s intention to provide and develop services in rural Ireland. 

“A wide range of headline proposals that were in the McCarthy Report and that would have had a negative impact on rural Ireland have not been implemented,” said Minister Ó Cuív.  “The Government remains committed to rural Ireland; this is obvious from the decisions taken in areas that will have the most impact on the communities and individuals that live in rural areas.”

2010 NATIONAL FAMINE MEMORIAL DAY

Éamon Ó Cuív, T.D., Minister for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs, today outlined the National Famine Commemoration Committee’s plans for the National Famine Memorial Day 2010.  The Committee has agreed the following for this year’s commemorations:

  • It is proposed that the national event will take place on 16 May 2010 in Murrisk, Co. Mayo;
  • The parallel international event will be held in New York;
  • That communities around the country should be encouraged to hold their own local events to commemorate the Great Famine; and
  • That all public and sporting events should observe a minute’s silence on the National Famine Memorial Day.

Minister Éamon Ó Cuív TD has said that the development of Galway Harbour and Ceannt Station in Galway are the most significant developments in the city for many, many years. 

“I believe that it is imperative now that we progress the development of the Galway inner harbour area and of Ceannt Station as speedily as possible while ensuring that what we get there is a coherent plan with good quality development,” said Minister Ó Cuív.

Gross funding for the Department of Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs at €415.426m in 2010 is reduced by a total of 13% relative to the 2009 allocation of   €475.701m.  Current funding is reduced by 9%, a decrease of €32.1m, and capital funding is reduced by 21%, a decrease of €28.175m.

Ó Cuív encourages people in Connemara to make applications for projects with Forum Connemara

 The Minister for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs, Éamon Ó Cuív TD has said that he was delighted to have been able to provide €1.5m to Forum Connemara for the approval of projects under the current LEADER round of the Rural Development Programme 2007-2013.  “To date, Forum Connemara has approved projects to the value of €127,000,” he said, “which means that they have €1.378m available immediately for the approval of projects.”
