Níl leagan aistrithe ar fáil.Éamon Ó Cuív T.D., Minister for Community, Rural & Gaeltacht Affairs has raised the issue with Minister for Transport, Noel Dempsey, T.D. regarding the damage caused by the recent inclement weather to roads in County Galway.
“Having travelled many roads in the western region, Galway in particular, over the past few weeks, I am aware of the deterioration in the surface of many roads. Roads such as the N17 and the N59 between Uachtar Ard and Maam Cross, as well as many other minor, regional and national roads were severely damaged during the recent cold snap.”
Minister Dempsey has assured Minister Ó Cuív that he fully appreciates the difficulties that have arisen because of the weather, and that he will be giving a direction to Local Authorities that they will be allowed to prioritise funds from his Department towards surface restoration this year.
“I fully accept that the priorities that Local Authorities would have had last autumn have now been radically changed. I believe that the plan for 2010 has to reflect this new reality. I also believe that this work be carried out to a very high standard, and that the replaced surfaces will use the best technology and materials available to ensure quality restoration of the surface.
I am delighted with the rapid response by Minister Dempsey to the issue I raised, and I hope that work can begin on the most badly damaged surfaces in the very near future.
