“I am very happy now that my colleague, Martin Cullen TD, Minister for Arts, Sport and Tourism is in a position to announce today that the Government will be supporting this bid to bring the Volvo Ocean Race back to Galway one more time in 2011-2012.
“The people of Ireland were very proud of the great achievement of the Let’s Do It Galway and the Let’s Do It Global people in bringing this famous race to Galway in 2009. We all understand the huge economic advantage it gave to the Galway region and the benefit people got from it the last time. It is a cause of optimism in these difficult economic times that the Government is now able to support this major international event as we did in 2009.
“I have to commend people like John Killeen for their work with Government on this project in recent days in particular. I trust that this Government support will strengthen the strong case that John Killeen, Enda O’Coineen and all their colleagues in Let’s Do It Global have in their bid to bring the race back to Ireland and to Galway again the next time and I wish them all the very best,” said the Minister.
